England v Germany is pretty big in football, but I don’t really like football. I know there are some big south American rivalries; Germany vs Poland is always something of a grudge match, as is Germany against most other countries in Europe, for some reason; Scotland, Wales and Ireland love to beat England; we love to beat the French. But there aren’t many sporting rivalries greater than England vs Australia.
I love Australia and Australians – they’re tough people, who play hard and have long punched far above their weight. Ricky Ponting was one of the best, and I wish him well in his retirement, but, cricket-wise, this was the moment the mask slipped for the first time in my life. I still chuckle every time I watch it:
