We’ve made loads – too many to rehearse here. One of the most egregious recent foul-ups was failing to publish The Etymologicon, by The Inky Fool’s Mark Forsyth.
After we added TIF to our sidebar 18 months or so ago, Mark made contact to see if we were interested in turning the blog into a book and – after umming and ahhing for a while – we decided against.
The main reason, in our defence, was that it needed to be done beautifully, beautiful costs money, and money seemed like it might be in extremely short supply across the country at the time. It still does, of course, but that hasn’t stopped Mark’s excellent book selling hand over fist for Icon Books. Ah well. You live and (you hope) learn.
Arggh! £2 for kindle, can’t resist. The backlog of reading material increases…
Of course, “wasting more police time” will go straight to the front of the queue when it is released (hint hint)
Tell me about it KJR (your ‘aaarrrgggh’). They’ve just printed another 50,000 copies, with a jacket price of £12.99. I would have been relocating to Courchevel!
WMPT – copies definitely available this month (end of). In the shops some time in Feb.
Bought a copy of this in Chorlton Bookshop last night. It’s a little independent, trying to keep it’s head above water. Even though I can get books cheaper elsewhere, i’d be gutted if it shut, so try and put a few shekels their way every month. I had a chat with the shop owner about your blog post. She was saying that, in her shop, a book is considered a massive hit if they knock out ten copies of it. I bought the 16th!!
