Travelling to London yesterday for one of my highly important meetings, I open my copy of Private Eye and see that Patrick has been escorted from the Times building by security guards, and ‘has not been seen in Wapping since’.
We can only hope that the Eye has made one of its notorious gaffes. For if true this is a tragedy for dedicated investigative journalists everywhere.
Patrick was made a People’s Hero of the Free Press (with Oak Leaves) for bravely exposing the award-winning police blogger ‘Nightjack’ as a policeman who blogged. Exclusive!
For more background go here.
Suffice it to say that Nightjack deserved all he got at the hands of Patrick and Mr ‘Justice’ Eady; plainly, it cannot be right that public servants are allowed to talk about what they do, while hiding behind the piffling excuse that they are exposing scandalous waste and mismanagement, revealing the tragedy of several lost generations in our poorest neighbourhoods and are breaching no confidentiality.
No, the trusty sword of truth must be used to skewer them so that they can be barbecued on the rotisserie of decency. No longer can we etc etc
